Project Management Maturity

Increase your organizational Project Management Maturity (PMM) by tapping into Roeder Consulting’s deep project management knowledge and expertise. This is not a cookie-cutter approach. Our primary organizing frameworks are The Roeder Method™ and A Sixth Sense for Project Management®. These frameworks provide highly flexible tools to improve your ability to get things done.

What is Project Management Maturity?

Project Management Maturity (PMM) is a measure of an organization’s ability to effectively manage projects. It reflects the level of sophistication and consistency in project management practices:

  • Definition: Project management maturity refers to the extent to which an organization applies standardized project management processes and practices. Also, it is a measure of the extent to which everything works together and delivers business outcomes.
  • Levels: It typically includes multiple levels, from initial (ad-hoc and chaotic) to optimized (continuous improvement and innovation).
  • Assessment: Organizations can assess their maturity level using Roeder Consulting’s PMM Model. It is important to note that not all organizations require top scores across all attributes. Higher PMM requires a higher investment, and that may not be necessary for business success.

Roeder Consulting’s PMM Model

Roeder Consulting’s Project Management Maturity Model consists of five scales. The model critically evaluates client organizations to determine their maturity level on each of these five factors, ranging from 0 to 5. The average of these scores provides a total Project Management Maturity Score.

For example, the first factor, Strategic Alignment, measures how well processes incorporate feedback from outcomes and vice versa. A score of 0 indicates limited or no strategic planning and project management, while a score of 5 indicates a regularly updated strategic plan that integrates project management insights.

Understanding and improving your levels in this model significantly enhance you project success rate and overall performance.

Benefits of Improved Project Management Maturity

Improved maturity drives greater organizational performance in several important ways:

  • Increased agility – mature organizations make faster decisions through clearly defined issue escalation processes and clear roles and responsibilities
  • Greater strategic alignment – one of the cornerstones of project maturity is tight alignment between organizational goals and project selection and prioritization
  • More efficiency – specific goals are acheived with fewer resources, and in compressed timelines, in optimized organizations
  • Improved risk management – mature practices help you identify, assess and manage risks more effectively
  • Enhanced stakeholder satisfaction – adoption of Roeder Consulting’s tested stakeholder management tools leads to better morale, alignment, and overall satisfaction
