The Origin of A Sixth Sense for Project Management®
A Sixth Sense for Project Management® was born from a simple observation: even well‑designed strategies and plans were failing at the moment of delivery. Not because teams lacked tools or intelligence—but because traditional project management and implementation didn’t account for how people actually behave under pressure. In response, Roeder Consulting spent more than two and a half years studying the human side of execution. We engaged subject‑matter experts, explored emerging research in neuroscience and decision‑making, attended neuroleadership conferences in Europe, and examined the science behind stress, trust, and behavior change. The result was a practical framework designed for real work—one that helps leaders and teams move forward when initiatives become tense, political, or exhausting. A Sixth Sense is not theory. It is how we help organizations deliver when execution matters most.
Battle-tested in the moments when execution gets hard
Most strategic initiatives don’t fail because the plan was wrong.
They fail when people get tense, political, tired, or avoidant—and the organization doesn’t know how to move forward together.
That’s where Roeder is different.
Our advantage isn’t that we have a framework.
It’s that our approach is designed to perform under pressure—when emotions rise, decisions stall, and alignment starts to fray. This is when execution usually breaks down. This is when we do our best work.

Built, Not Theorized
A Sixth Sense is not a personality trait. It is not intuition you either have or don’t have.
It is a set of practical leadership capabilities. This way of working was formalized through years of client work, research, and reflection, articulated in the book A Sixth Sense for Project Management®, and later shared with a broader audience through a widely viewed TEDx talk. But the ideas didn’t start in a book or on a stage. They started in real rooms, with real leaders, under real pressure.
What we mean by a “Sixth Sense”
A Sixth Sense for Project Management® is Roeder’s way of helping leaders and teams navigate the human side of execution—not as a soft add‑on, but as a core capability.
It’s the ability to read the situation, make sound decisions, communicate clearly, adapt without losing direction, work through conflict, and keep momentum when the work gets uncomfortable.
We don’t teach this as theory.
We apply it directly to the initiatives that matter most.
The Six Disciplines — Simplified

Situational Awareness
Seeing what’s really happening—not just what’s on the plan.
We pay attention to people, dynamics, incentives, and early warning signs so problems surface early, not after damage is done.

Better Decisions Under Pressure
Good decisions aren’t made by analysis alone.
We help leaders balance data, judgment, and experience so decisions stick—even when information is incomplete and the stakes are high.

Clear, Meaningful Communication
Updates don’t equal alignment.
We focus on shared understanding so teams leave conversations knowing what was decided, what changed, and what matters now.

Adaptability Without Drift
Strategic work always changes.
We help organizations adjust course while staying anchored to what matters—so execution stays real, not reactive.

Productive Diplomacy
Conflict is inevitable in high‑stakes work.
We help leaders work through it constructively—finding common ground, reducing friction, and keeping progress moving.

Persistence Through the Messy Middle
Most initiatives don’t fail at the start—they fade over time.
We provide the follow‑through, cadence, and reinforcement needed to carry work through resistance, fatigue, and shifting priorities.
Why this matters
When execution is easy, anyone can look good.
When execution is hard—when politics surface, energy drops, or decisions stall—most approaches fall apart.
Roeder’s Sixth Sense is built for those moments. t’s how we reduce execution risk, restore momentum, and help leaders carry the burden of critical work without carrying it alone.
You can see a Sixth Sense at work when:
- Meetings end with ownership, not just agreement
- Decisions survive outside the room
- Tension is addressed early, without drama
- Teams stay aligned even as priorities shift
- Execution feels calmer, not heavier
This is about reducing drag at the moments that matter most.
Trust in Execution
Clients don’t come to us for more process.
They come to us because they need confidence that the work will actually get done.
A Sixth Sense for Project Management® is how we earn that trust—and how we turn strategy into outcomes, even when the path forward isn’t clean or simple.
